Faces of Foleon
Claire Mulkens-Schouten

Product and Engineering teams are often the unseen heroes in SaaS.
We believe they should be in the spotlight because where would the Foleon platform be without them?
Faces of Foleon is an interview series that showcases the amazing people behind our content platform, celebrating their hard work and dedication.
Claire Mulkens-Schouten joined the #FoleonFam back in 2018 as a Customer Support Hero.
She now combines her passion for helping customers with her love of tech as a QA Lead. The quality of our platform wouldn't be the same without her.
Without further ado, meet Claire. 👋
Hi, Claire!
To start, tell us a bit about your role at Foleon.
I’m the QA Lead at Foleon. QA stands for Quality Assurance, meaning I motivate teams to adopt a more quality-driven mindset, increase test coverage, and ensure we provide our customers with the best Foleon experience possible.
And as a QA Lead, I’m also overseeing the overall quality of the product we deliver to our customers.
I found the move to become a QA Engineer relatively easy since I worked with them as a Technical Support Engineer and already knew a lot of my teammates, and they knew of my capabilities. It made pursuing my passion a little bit easier.”
What feature have you worked on that you’re most proud of and why?
I’ve worked with one of the teams responsible for the faster publisher. This sounds a bit technical, but let me take you back in time. Imagine sitting behind your desk, making some final changes to your Foleon Doc. You take one last look, and you’re all satisfied. Now it’s time to press that blue [Publish] button, so you click it and wait. You turn around on your chair and wait a little bit more, then decide to get coffee and come back. Long story short, it took longer than we wanted. Since we made the necessary changes, publishing has been made much smoother and faster. Sometimes, when I publish a Foleon Doc now, thinking I have time to get a quick coffee, I miss that longer publishing time, but overall, I’m mostly proud of the team and that we managed to do this!
If you had to pick one product feature you believe is a game-changer, which one would it be?
I’d have to say the Template Manager. This feature enables our customers to create Foleon Docs quickly and also save their most used blocks, pages, overlays, and even Docs. It really speeds up the creation process and helps non-designers quickly create something good-looking too. I also use this feature sometimes when I want to create a new Foleon Doc or when I’m particularly fond of my creations.
What excites you about Foleon's future developments?
Working for a company like Foleon is always exciting! We’re currently in the very early stages of building a new feature that’s been requested by customers over the past years. We’ve had a few workarounds, but this feature will enable our users to take full control and tailor their content to specific readers even further. 😉
What sweet tunes do you listen to when working to get in the zone?
I have to start with Taylor Swift, and if you’re one of those people still not convinced, Evermore and Folklore are honestly very good albums to get you in a concentrated mood and probably not what you’d expect when I say Taylor Swift Apart from that, I listen to basically anything that fits my work mood. It could be anything from FLETCHER to Green Day, boygenius, Paramore, a classic rock band (Led Zeppelin or the Who), or even show tunes/musical albums.
Ok, this last question is from Stijn, who nominated you for this interview. 😉
How are we taking the quality of the Foleon platform to the next level?
That’s a question where I could give a very long, more tech-focused answer, like, for example, expanding our test automation coverage.
I think it all comes down to constantly improving and making quality a team responsibility, really adopting a quality mindset rather than making testing an afterthought and being highly ambitious.
This means we’ve had sessions with Marc (our VP of Product & Engineering) and the various development teams on where we want to go as a Development department and how to improve our test strategies, but also working closely with our Support team, so that we get first-hand information on pain points. Obviously, change doesn’t come overnight, so we’ll keep working hard on this, continuously inspecting and adapting to newer insights.
Thanks for chatting with us!
Who should we talk to next? Nominate a team member and add a question you'd want them to answer.
I’m going to bring Fabian de Bakker, our Senior Product Designer into the spotlight! I’d like to know more about the process behind creating a new feature, from idea to possible design.
